RNL coming to Veszprem, Carlos Ortega for HP: “We have to play very good to win”

At the beginning of the new season Hungarian TOP team MKB-MVM Veszprem dream about Cologne and the title of the VELUX EHF Champions League, but this year like never before maybe, Laszlo Nagy and his team-mates have reason to believe that their place is among the best four team in Europe. They were unlucky against THW Kiel at TOP 8 clashes last season, but new season already began and new goals are set. Spanish coach on Veszprem’s bench, legendary Antonio Carlos Ortega wants to get maximum from his squad. He talks for Handball-Planet.com before the important clash against Rhein Neckar Lowen on Sunday:

– I am satisfied with all we have done during preparation and season so far. The worst thing is that Ruesga has been injured for four weeks, so his adaption in the system is delayed.

Do you have stronger squad than last season?

– We have more player in some positions. We made only two changes, so only Ruesga and Ilic have to adapt on our system.

Ruesga was injured, but Serbian left back Momir Ilic showed in some matches at the beginning of the season that will be a very useful addition to the squad?

– Momir understands our ideas every day and growing as a member of the squad. I am sure that also Carlos will help us a lot, but this four weeks break in pre season and at the start of the season was very difficult for him and the rest of the squad.

Interesting detail from the pre-season were your three clashes in three weekends in a row against French super-team Paris Saint German. You beat them twice. It’s means something or…

– Pre season is only a preparation period. The results aren’t important in pre season, but it is always good to win.

After easy start in Russia against Sankt Petersburg, Veszprem will face Rhein Neckar Lowen on Sunday in “Veszprem Arena. What do you think about the Germans?

– Rhein Neckar Lowen have a very good players and the team – global. Their first wave in the fastbreaks with Gensheimer and Groetzki is amazing. If we want to win, we know that our performance have to be very good.

Match with the Germans will be the first big clash in “Veszprem Arena” in this season. Did you miss your fantastic fans?
