Six German cities to host Men’s World Championship 2027
Six venues will host the 2027 IHF Men’s World Championship, which will take place in Germany, with the final scheduled on 31 January.
Munich, Stuttgart, Magdeburg, Kiel, Hanover and Cologne will be the host cities of the big handball event which will set new standards.
“We are touching the whole of Germany with this tournament. These venues unite many of the things thatmake us special: they are centers of the Bundesliga, they stand for tradition, but – like Munich with the new SAP Garden – also for modernity. With this great infrastructure, we are ready for another highlight in the decade of handball,” says Andreas Michelmann, the President of the German Handball Federation.
The 2027 IHF Men’s World Championship will begin in the SAP Garden in Munich, which opened just a few weeks ago, as well as the Porsche Arena Stuttgart, the Wunderino Arena in Kiel and the GETEC Arena in Magdeburg.
In these three arenas, the eight preliminary round groups will take place, with two for each venue. The top three sides in each group will progress to the main round, which will be played in the LANXESS arena in Cologne and the ZAG arena in Hannover.
The quarter-finals and semi-finals as well as the placement and medal matches will also take place in Cologne, where on January 31st, 2027 the new world champion will be crowned.

- Preliminary Round: 13 or 14 January 2027 to 19 January 2027 in Munich, Stuttgart, Kiel, and Magdeburg
- Main Round: 20 to 25 January 2027 in Cologne and Hannover
- Final Round: 26 to 31 January 2027 in Cologne

- Munich, SAP Garden, 11,000 seats – Birthplace of Olympic indoor handball and, together with the Olympic Hall, venue of the 2019 IHF Men’s World Championship and EHF EURO 2024
- Stuttgart, Porsche Arena, 6,200 seats – Home of TVB Stuttgart and venue of the 2007 IHF Men’s World Championship
- Magdeburg, GETEC Arena, 6,500 seats – Home of SC Magdeburg and venue of the 2007 IHF Men’s World Championship
- Kiel, Wunderino Arena, 10,250 seats – Home of THW Kiel and venue of the 2007 IHF Men’s World Championship
- Hannover, ZAG Arena, 10,000 seats – Home of TSV Hannover-Burgdorf and venue of the Paris 2024 Olympic Qualification Tournament
- Cologne, LANXESS Arena, 19,250 seats – Final venue of the 2007 IHF Men’s World Championship and the EHF EURO 2024
