The German Handball federation is on crossroads. They are probably going to have to choose a successor of Heiner Brand, the long-standing coach of Germany, as the recent results have been below expected, and Brandt is facing more and more critics and more demands to be replace by someone else. One hot candidate for the coaching role is Staffan Olsson, who already has lots of successes with THW Kiel winning the home championship four times and three times the cup as well as three Swedish championships with Hammarby. Internationally he coached Sweden’s team along with Lindgren, and finished 4th.
Another candidate is Martin Schwalb, the HSV coach, and he has lots of support from Christian Schwarzer, the handball legend. What will happen with the German coaching post, we are yet to see, and it will be decided by the special “Task Force” designed by the German federation to deal with this issue.
