As expected, experienced Russian team had no troubles to outplay Japan 39:29 (18:15). Atman, Dibirov and Shishkarev netted six goals each in 60 minutes of routine play by European side who showed clear dominance against Asian squad, especially in the last 15 minutes.
Team led by Antonio Carlos Ortega gave a strong resistance and stayed almost balanced after 40 minutes (25:24), but Russians made 5:0 series after it, to secure easy finish.
The Russian goalkeepers Bogdanov and Kirev had 18 saves, 13 more than Japanese goalies Kimura and Shimitzu.
Japan will meet France on Friday 17.45, while Russia going to play against Norway 24 hours later.
