Patrice Canayer is at the TOP of European handball again. The longest successful story in European handball again reached the best possible moment after 15 years from the first major success – winning the EHF Champions League in 2003.
The 57 years-old French coach is symbol of persistance in his work because he began work with Montpellier in 1994.
In that time, Montpellier Handball were the club without any title. In 24 years with Canayer on the helm, team from the French south became the most successful team ever in domestic handball and the only French team which won VELUX EHF Champions League. This was their 40th trophy in all competitions (14 French League titles).
Canayer did it in 2003 and did it again in Cologne, in season which Montpellier began as third team of French League, from the lower part of EHF CL – Group C and D.
Moreover, that is the team without almost any superstar in the moment, but great players who are led perfectly by well-known coach.
