Veselin Vujovic is no longer Iran NT coach

Veselin Vujovic is no longer head-coach of national team of Iran.

The 62-year-old coach was named head coach of Iran in April 2022 and led the Persians at the 2023 IHF World Handball Championship, where they finished 24th out of 32 teams, with the first ever placement at the Main Round.

According to Balkan-Handball.com sources, Vujovic resigned from the position of the head-coach after Asian Olympic qualification tournament which was held during October in Doha, Qatar.

Montenegrian coach wasn’t satisfied with the conditions in which he works due political situation on Middle East endangered with Israeli action in Gaza. He suggested that team prepares for upcoming Asian Championship 2024 somewhere in Europe in order to keep focus.

The federation has appointed former Iran’s youth coach Majid Rahimizadeh as Vujovic’s replacement.

Rahimizadeh will lead Iran at the 2024 Asian Men’s Handball Championship in Bahrain, where Iran have been drawn along with South Korea, China and New Zealand in Group B.
