Vipers Kristiansand file for bankruptcy
Three times EHF Champions League winners and seven-time best team in Norway VIPERS KRISTIANSAND with stars led by the legendary Katrin Lunde declared bankruptcy due to the inability to cope with financial obligations.
Board chairman Peter Gitmark confirmed this at a press conference after the decisive board meeting in Kristiansand on Sunday evening.
– Vipers Kristiansand played the last game at home. Then the look on my face shows that this is incredibly painful. We did our best to save the club, said Peter Gitmark and added that the players reacted “with disbelief and emotion”.
The money that was supposed to be found by the weekend amounted to over 2,000,000 EUR, but other information also appeared that a minimum of 850,000 EUR (from 10 to 12 million NOR crowns) was needed for survival.
None of that happened. As many as 19 players and coaching staff were left without work, and the EHF Champions League was without one of the biggest clubs.
