Vipers Kristiansand seal trip to Budapest

Vipers Kristiansand are the third qualified for the DELO Women’s EHF Final 4. After a 25-18 win over Buducnost at home, and a global result of 49-37 (24-19 on the first leg in Podgorica), the Norwegian side have booked their participation on their first ever Champions League semifinals.

After four years, Norwegian club handball is back among the best in Europe. Vipers Kristiansand have qualified for their first ever DELO Women’s EHF Final 4 after the 25-18 victory against Buducnost in Kristiansand.

The coached by Ole Gustav Gjekstad have taken Scandinavian handball to Budapest again, after Larvik’s appearance on the continental title’s final in the 2015 season. Helped by some great goalkeeping from Katrine Lunde (46% save rate), and with the goals from Linn Jørum Sulland (6), youngster Henny Ella Reistad and Jeanett Kristiansen (4 each), the Norwegian side did not let the Montenegrin side get too close.

On the 22th minute, a goal by Emilie Hegh Arntzen set the 10-5 and seemed to establish a secure distance. But the coached by Dragan Adzic are known for fighting, and they did so; with goals from Itana Grbic, Cristina Laslo and Karatina Bulatovic, they managed to reach the half time only three goals down: 11-8.

On the second half Vipers continued with a high level that allowed them to stretch the lead to +8 after 20′ (22-14) and simply mantained the difference until the end of the match. Sulland was top scorer of the match with 6 goals while Grbic was the one who scored the most for her team (5).

While this will be Vipers Kristiansand’s first time on the DELO Women’s EHF Final 4, some of its players will have their second participation. Sulland and Lunde were part of the final stage of the Champions League with the same team, but in different years. While the goalkeeper lifted the trophy on the first ever Women’s Final 4 in 2014 with Győri Audi ETO KC, the right back was part of the squad that finished second after CSM Bucuresti on a nail-biting final that was decided in 7-meter throws.
