Women Euro 2014 (Q): Slovenia surprise Serbia, Russia revenges against Germany

The second round of the Women’s EHF EURO 2014 qualification matches brought us some interesting results. Russia was able to use the home advantage, and revenge against Germany for the defeat few days ago. It’s been a hard-fought victory, with the Russians taking the points after 29:28 win in Astrakhan. Hosts had Makeeva score 5 goals, while Susann Mueller scored match-high 9 goals.

In the Balkan derby, Slovenian girls scraped their first two points in the group stage after defeating the favorites Serbia. A four-goal lead at half time proved enough to keep the lead for the rest of the match, and in the end a 31:26 home win with Mavsar scoring 6 goals for Slovenia, while Katarina Krpez was Serbia’s best with 5 goals.
