Aalborg Håndbold signs Alec Smit

The 26-year-old winger has signed a deal for the remainder of this season.

After the recent injury to Patrick Wiesmach, Aalborg Håndbold announced on Thursday that they have reached an agreement with Dutch player Alec Smit, who will fill the gap on the right wing.

Smit joins the club with experience from HSG Nordhorn-Lingen, SønderjyskE Herrehåndbold, and most recently Pfadi Winterthur in Switzerland.

“Initially, the plan was to wait and see before signing a replacement for Patrick, but shortly after we had the chance to take a closer look at Alec, who has been training with us this week,” said team manager Martin Larsen.
“He has shown himself to be an obvious choice for us — he’s in good shape and already knows the Danish league well from his years at SønderjyskE. We’re happy to have reached an agreement with him for the rest of the season.”

Alec Smit, who has 62 international appearances for the Netherlands, expressed his excitement about joining Aalborg Håndbold:

“I’ve kept my options open since the summer, so when Aalborg Håndbold called, there wasn’t much to think about. I’m proud to join the Danish champions, to fight for titles, and to experience the Champions League — something I’ve always dreamed of,” said Smit, who will wear shirt number 6.

His debut could come on Wednesday, 6 November, when Aalborg Håndbold hosts Ribe-Esbjerg HH in the Bambuni Herreliga, provided his player certificate arrives in time.
