Bob Hanning after Berlin’s earthquake: The Most Brutal Decision of My Career

The Fuchse Berlin leader Bob Hanning explained his decision to change Jaron Siewert and Stefan Kretzschmar in the middle of the season and appoint Nikolej Krickau. He posted on Linkedin:

To call it a turbulent week would surely be the understatement of the year. Of course, I could imagine the reactions to the decisions at Füchse Berlin: lack of understanding, emotions, disappointments, and even insults.

And yes, in particular, the decision concerning Jaron was brutal. The most difficult one in my 20 years with Füchse. I accompanied Jaron as a player, supported him as a coach, and value him as a person. He is one of us, a Berlin boy who shaped this club from the youth teams all the way to the championship. I take my hat off to his achievements and his loyalty. That is precisely why this step was so difficult.

Many will not be able to understand the decision from the outside. And especially under the aspect of leadership, the question arises: How do you even make such decisions?

For me, two things play the decisive role: what is best for the club and strategic foresight.

Success is always a snapshot in time. My task over the past 20 years, and still today, is to position Füchse in such a way that we will continue to be successful in the years to come. That is why I make decisions together with the circle of shareholders when they are necessary, not when they seem convenient or might sell better in the media.

Despite all the unrest, one thing must not be forgotten: both Jaron and Stefan have contributed with passion to the sporting growth of Füchse in recent years. For that, they deserve great recognition and respect.

None of this changes the fact that now the absolute focus must be on sport. With Magdeburg, Nantes, Gummersbach, Aalborg, Melsungen, and Kielce, we face only top opponents in the next three weeks.

Now we want to stand together for the future of our club.
