Hungary secure place in Olympics qualification tournament

Thanks to their 31:28 win over Poland the Hungarian team didn’t only reach the seventh place at this World Championship but booked their ticket for the Olympics qualification tournaments in April 2012. Poland ranks eight in the end and have to hope for one of the free places for those tournaments which will be decided at the European Championship 2012

Placement match 7/8:

Poland – Hungary 31:28 (16:14)

The spectators saw a first half like a roller coaster, Hungary was in front 3:0 but couldn’t keep the lead, as Poland improved and on their hand extended the gap to 12:8 and 14:10. But suddenly everything changed completely, as Poland lost their rhythm in attacks. It only took some minute, as Hungary had equalized at 14:14, then went to the dressing rooms with a 16:14 lead and even extended it to five goals at 19:14. But nothing was decided as Poland rose like Phoenix from ashes again, but couldn’t come closer than to a two goal gap at 28:30. A penalty goal, scored by Gergö Ivancsik – his eleventh goal in total, decided the game atleast.

Fifth place won Croatia with a win over Iceland 34:33.
