LEFT FOR RIGHT WING: Dahmke to replace Hornke in German squad

The Olympic handball tournament is over for Tim Hornke.

The right winger of SC Magdeburg suffered an injury to the plantar fascia in his left foot after just a few seconds in the German handball team’s opening match against Sweden (30:27).

He will be replaced by THW Kiel left wing Rune Dahmke will now replace Hornke in the 14-man squad.

Axel Kromer, Sports Director of the German Handball Federation:

“It is extremely bitter that we lost Tim after just a few seconds and I feel very sorry for him. Unlike at a European Championship or World Cup, we have no chance of replacing him in the same position. But we have had a fantastic start to the tournament and will also solve this problem.”

Pivot player Justus Fischer and goalkeeper Joel Birlehm are now available for further substitutions in the event of injuries.
