Tim Hornke to retire with SC Magdeburg

Right winger Tim Hornke will retire after this season. The 35-year-old said he’s grateful for “many intense and wonderful years,” calling SC Magdeburg a special club that shaped him “both as an athlete and as a person.” Coach Bennet Wiegert praised Hornke’s passion, reliability, and contribution, saying it was hard to accept the decision of a player he once coached as a youngster.
Hornke joined Magdeburg in 2010, played for TBV Lemgo from 2014 to 2019, then returned. He won every major title with the club — Bundesliga, DHB-Pokal, EHF Champions League, EHF European League, and IHF Super Globe — and scored 1,492 goals in 466 Bundesliga games. He was also part of Germany’s silver medal team at the 2024 Olympics. His departure follows that of goalkeeper Sergey Hernandez, while several key contracts (Pettersson, Zehnder, O’Sullivan, Barthold, Bergendahl) expire next summer.
