Max Beneke Explains His Sudden Move to ThSV Eisenach

Just before the season started, Max Beneke left Füchse Berlin to join ThSV Eisenach. The 2023 U21 World Champion made his debut at the Wartburg Cup without even one training session with his new team.

“I had imagined last season at Füchse differently after returning from Potsdam. Yes, I had the world’s best player, Matthias Gidsel, ahead of me, but I still hoped for more playing time,” Beneke admitted to Eisenach’s press service. “With Berlin defending their first-ever German championship, the squad was set. That was a disadvantage for me.”

The signing of Tobias Gröndahl from GOG further reduced Beneke’s chances, as Fabian Wiede also shifted to right back. “Suddenly there was no option for me to play more,” he explained.

A move to Bergischer HC fell through, but then Eisenach made contact. “The clubs spoke, and the next day I met coach Sebastian Hinze. On Thursday I was in Eisenach, signed on Friday, and hours later I was already wearing the jersey at the Wartburg Cup,” Beneke said of his lightning transfer.
