Per Johansson still had a running contract until March 2026, but after reaching the quarter finals twice, he no longer sees himself as the right person to take the next step. This in combination with his role as head coach at the Hungarian top club Györ, where he can now put his full focus. Johansson: “It is time to move on. The team has a stronger foundation than 2.5 years ago. I think it is time for a new coach to guide them further towards future sporting achievements.”The Dutch Handball Association is now looking for a replacement to prepare the Women’s Handball Team for the European Championships that will start in November in Innsbruck, Austria. “We regret Per’s decision but respect his choice,” said interim technical director Jeroen Bijl. “Per has performed consistently with the team and ensured continuity within the team. We would like to thank Per and wish him much success in the rest of his career at Györ. Now it is time to look ahead and start the search for a new national coach. We will take the time to find a good replacement who can work with the team on the ambitions we have set in the run-up to the 2025 World Cup in our own country.”
