One of the tournament with the biggest tradition in Europe, STRUGA 2013 will be organized for the 41st year in a row in beautiful city of Struga in Macedonia from August 14 to August 17. The biggest handball derby on the Balkan, year by year with the higher importance in Europe between RK Vardar and RK Metalurg could have the first chapter in the upcoming season on the coast of amazing Ohrid Lake. Beside two TOP Macedonian teams, which could both play at the VELUX EHF Champions League next season, if Metalurg beat Pick Szeged in qualification battles, also Romanian TOP team and EHF CL member in the last few years, HCM Constanta is coming. Another ambitious team is Belarus Meshkov Brest, club which compete in SEHA also. Also two French team, Ivry Handball and Versaille Handball will come to Struga to compete against strong sides from different part of Europe. Ivry is known as the team who broke the years of Montpellier domination (2007) and wont he French championship before last season and PSG. Versaille Handball is the team of great tradition – who celebrate 50th birthday this year.
VARDAR AND METALURG – FRIENDLY “FIRST AND THE LAST TIME”
Two Macedonian teams, RK Vardar and RK Metalurg won’t play in the same group at the tournament, but with closer look at the participants list, won’t be surprise if two Macedonian teams meet at the Final or third place match. That will be the first match of two big rivals from six during season in SEHA, national Cup and Championship. Matches in Struga will be played from 19 and 20.45hrs.
RK Vardar and Meshkov Brest still fighting for service of the best handball player ever, Ivano Balic, but one thing is almost clear. No matter which team will choose handball “Mozzart”, he will participate at Struga 2013 – with Vardar or Meshkov. Organizers will have a chance for better promotion, while handball fans will enjoy to watch great playmaker…
METALURG DEFENDS TITLE
The best ever season of Macedonian handball with placement at EHF CL TOP 8, RK Metalurg Skopje began in Struga 2012. Team of Lino Cervar won the tournament by triumph over Belarus top side Dinamo Minsk 26:23 later rival at VELUX EHF CL TOP 16.
