Wiegert: “A bit lucky” – Sabate: “We deserved a point”
It was a really tight match at GETEC Arena, where SC Magdeburg beat Orlen Wisla Plock 27:26, but Polish team showed that it will be a very strong contender to all the teams at EHF Champions League this season with signings like Richardson and Kosorotov.
Xavi Sabaté, coach of Plock:
“First of all, congratulations to Magdeburg. But I think we would have deserved a point in the end. In the first half, especially with our finishing, we weren’t good enough and made too many easy mistakes. That continued after the break – until we found our rhythm and became more effective. Then the team did something incredible and fought its way back again. Big compliments to my players for that. Unfortunately, in the end, it wasn’t enough.”
Bennet Wiegert, coach of Magdeburg:
“I think we played a very, very good handball game for 47 minutes and were very dominant. It took us a bit to pick up the energy, but then we got into it better and better. For a long time we had everything under control – and then we lost our grip. In the end, it’s almost a bit lucky that the last two shots didn’t go in. That way it feels good in the end, and I’m happy that we managed to save it over the finish line.”
