SEHA GAZPROM South Stream League will have the biggest name and the first favorite for the title next season – Hungarian best team MKB MVM Veszprem. Team board decided to join the League after the last round of negotiations with SEHA office members in Zagreb.
Second Hungarian team PICK Szeged have decided to stay focused on domestic League and European competitions. EHF Cup winner couldn’t meet demands from the SEHA – fee for joining (“a few hundred thousands euro” the League and percent in TV rights. PICK’s board give an offer to SEHA, but that was turned down, writes on official club’s website.
League has currently 13 teams inside, but still is open question, whether will have 12 or 14 members next season. The first “unofficial” solution is that Montenegrian champion RK Lovcen won’t meet the requirements of the competition based on financial potential and venue standards – hall in Cetinje. In that case, League could start with 12 teams from the September.
Second option is that some of the countries who already participate get the third team. Slovenia is very interested for that solution, while RK Maribor Branik have alll the capabilites to join the League immediately alongside RK Celje PL and RK Gorenje.
Decision about the League system and the team’s list has to be made in the next few days.
