Tomas Axnér to lead Swedish girls until 2028 Olympics

Tomas Axnér will remain head coach of Sweden’s women’s national team until the 2028 Olympic Games in Los Angeles and the subsequent European Championship in Sweden, Denmark, and Norway.

Since taking over in 2020, the former Gummersbach and Minden player has led Sweden through seven major tournaments, achieving six consecutive top-five finishes but still missing out on a medal. Under his leadership, Sweden has played 99 matches, with 66 wins, 6 draws, and 27 losses.

Axnér also continues to coach Team Esbjerg at club level. His new term begins with two friendly matches against Hungary in September before the World Championship, where Sweden will play its group stage in Stuttgart.

He expressed pride in leading the team and emphasized the shared dream of finally winning a medal. The Swedish federation highlighted his leadership and the stability he has brought to the program.
