TRANSFER BOMB: Nikolaj Markussen to Qatari Eljaish!

As Handball-Planet.com exclusively finds out, one of the tallest handball players and certanly, one of the best left back of the World, Danish star, Nikolaj Markussen (25) will continue proffesional career in Qatari military club – Eljaish, immediately! Member of Spanish side BM Atletico Madrid was a target of ambitious Qatari handball for a while. He had an offer to play for their NT a few years ago, but he refused. Now, situation has changed. Spanish team is in deep financial crisis and Qatari League gathering more and more quality players from Europe.

Markussen is already in Doha, where he signed two years contract with Eljaish, team who fight for the Championship. In Play Off six teams are playing for the title.

Obviously that means BM Atletico Madrid will fight for the EHF CL F4 with F.C Barcelona without one of the best players…

Montenegrian left back Stevan Vujovic (23) has also signed contract with Eljaish. He came from RK Lovcen Cetinje.

I was absolutely surprised as well, there is a crisis at Atletico, but he could have played still a quarter final against Barca and maybe get a better offer(not financial) at the end of this season..But he knows what he needs..How they say there is that money..
But Atletico has still 2 good backups at those position Canellas and Jurkiewicz or maybe Gojun as well.I do not feel they chanceless against Barca..

I don’t agree. I think the financial crisis in Europe open de door for handball to another places and it can be good for handball grows. Maybe handball will be a strong sport along de wordl in the future and Qatar can be the first step.

I’m really surprised with his decision. He is really good and young player, he could play somewhere in Germany or in any other European country. I think that this is very bad for his future. Money isn’t everything. 🙁

It’s bad for European Handball that Qatar is interesting in handball. They can do the same what they’re doing in football 🙁
