“I want a new coach”: Icelandic legends against Gudmundsson
Iceland ended at 12th place at World Handball Championship 2023. Icelanders ended third in Main Round Group despite the same number of points with the second best team Hungary (who won a direct battle). This wasn’t according to the plan of the ambitious handball nation led by Olympic gold medal coach (with Denmark) Gudmundur Gudmundsson:
– With this championship in mind, he cannot handle the pressure. He’s not ready to make this team win. He talks about excessive expectations and demands. How does it affect the team? I am dissatisfied with the way the national team is managed. This is the biggest disappointment so far. We must have changes, and I want a new coach, he says Logi Geirsson, who was a part of Olympic silver Icelandic squad in 2008 and EHF EURO 2010 bronze medal team led by Gudmundsson, according to Visir .
